Teresa Salazar-Catron
MD CMD
Dr. Catron has been practicing in Blount County since 2003. She is Board Certified in Family Medicine, Geriatric Medicine, and Hospice and Palliative Medicine. She received her Bachelor's degree at Purdue University, and Master's degree at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Her love of the environment and science initially led to a career in landscape architecture and environmental planning, but, having come from a medical family, the call of medicine was too strong to ignore. At the age of 32 she entered the James H. Quillen College of Medicine in Johnson City, and in her post graduate education, found a new passion in geriatric medical care.
Dr Catron started practice with East Tennessee Medical Group, seeing patients in both the clinic setting and in long term care. She soon found, however, that her heart lay in providing care to our most needy: the fragile elders in transitional and long term care. She focused her medical practice there, and now serves as medical director at several facilities in our area when she strives to enhance the provision of medical care in a challenging medical environment. As a natural follow up to her work in long term care, she has become more involved in end of life care, now serving as Medical Director of Blount Memorial Hospital's Hospice and Palliative Care program. Dr Catron is an active member of the Blount Memorial Hospital medical staff, having served the hospital in a number of roles, and is now involved in medical staff leadership. She has served as Chair of Medicine and Chief of Staff. After many years of practice in Blount county, she has now partnered with like-minded Physicians and Nurse Practitioners to form Blount Senior Care Partners. Their goal is to create a new model of care serving seniors in Blount and surrounding counties, leading to improvements in access to and continuity of care in multiple venues.
Having been raised in Louisville, Kentucky, Dr. Catron first came to Blount County in 1989 after marrying Curtis Catron. She quickly learned what a small world we live in when she found that both her new neighbors were family! She hikes when time permits, practices VERY amateur photography, and enjoys traveling the world. She lives with her husband Curtis, and their three dogs Ocho, Topsy, and Adele.
